Here's an article I read on The Daily Mail about the birth of a new elephant.
The herd of elephants encircle the pregnant female to shield her from hyenas. The pictures are far more important than the article. You can see the baby elephant once he's born stand up and the happy elephants trumpeting the arrival. Beautiful!

Low Clouds
NASA has been studying cloud height for the past ten years. The data suggests that less clouds are forming at higher altitudes and more are forming at lower altitudes. Interestingly, the overall cloudtop height is lower as well. Scientists think that this will result in a cooling of the Earth.
The Earth is an organism just like people, animals, bacteria, and plants. It's so cool.

Look at this plant!
Who knows what this is?
Nope, not cherries or grapes.
It's coffee. I suppose since I don't drink coffee (blasphemous, I know!), I've never really investigated what a coffee plant is or how it's processed to be the beans that live in our freezer.

Captain Morgan
I first heard about this story elsewhere but then it popped up again on Jeopardy! last night.
The pirate ship of Henry Morgan was discovered over the summer. A team of archeologists have since been working to recover all sorts of relics.
Interestingly, when the team found itself without funding and unable to continue, a well known sponsor stepped in to provide some money: Captain Morgan USA (obviously!).
Here's the pirate himself:
